Hipokalemik Periyodik Paralizi Olgusu

Hipokalemik periyodik paralizi kas güçsüzlüðü ataklarý ile seyreden ve tedavi edilmediði zaman ölümcül olabilen nadir bir hastalýktýr. Otuz altý yaþýndaki erkek hasta hastanemiz acil servisine bacaklarda kas güçsüzlüðü ile baþvurdu. Dört ay önce benzer þikayeti olan hasta 16 saat içerisinde kendiliðinden iyileþmiþti. Acil rutin kan testlerinde serum potasyum seviyesi belirgin düþük saptandý. Kliniði potasyum yerine koyma tedavisi ile kýsa sürede tamamen düzeldi. Nadir görülen olgu; acil servise ani geliþen kas güçsüzlüðü ile gelen hastalarda akýlda bulundurulmasý amacýyla sunulmuþtur.

Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis Case

Hypokalemic periodic paralysis is a rare disease characterized by episodes of muscle weakness and can be fatal when left untreated. A 36-year-old male was admitted to our emergency service of the hospital with common muscle weakness in his legs. He had the same complaint four months prior and normalized in 16 hours without any intervention. The serum potassium level of the patient was significantly low. In the clinic, it is important for patients to receive potassium replacement therapy as soon as possible for resolution of symptoms. This rarely seen case is presented to make physicians aware of incoming patients to the emergency department with sudden muscle weakness.
