1. | USING OF LATEX AGGLUTINATION TEST FOR DIAGNOSIS OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION AND ITS VARIABLE DIAGNOSTIC VALUE ACCORDING TO AGE Berrin Telatar, Oya Uygur Bayramiçli, Ali Yayla, Birsel Kavaklı Pages 687 - 689 There are a lot of serologic tests which are used for Helicobacter pylori infection detection; the subject of these tests can be used as a screening test or not are still researched. As a result of these studies it is confirmed that there are a lot of factors that affect performance of tests and age is one of t hem, in our study it is shown that the latex agglutination test named 'Pyloriset Dry' can be used as a screening test in a 20-45 age group not having serious symptoms. |
2. | THE PERINATAL MORTALITY RATE OBSERVED IN KARTAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL FOR 6 MONTHS PERIOD AND ITS EVALUATION Büşra İlknur Ezengin, Orhan Ünal, Yasemin Akın Ekmekçioğlu Pages 690 - 694 Perinatal and neonatal mortality rates become indicators (to demonstrate the health status) especially for international comparisations. The rates are the indicators of education, social and public health systems as well as obstetrics and neonatology status and at the same time the socioeconomic development of the countries. During our study, 90 perinatal deaths occurred among 1609 births, when the cases analyzed, the perinatal mortality rate was found as 56.92 %0. The highest rate in perinatal mortality was 31.11 %, because of fetal mortality, which followed by prematurity and anoxia. When compared with developed countries or even Turkey's mean, the perinatal mortality rate in our hospital seems very high, but this is mostly because of the high risk patients sent to our hospital from periphere, the socioeconomic and socio cultural levels of the patients we serve are low and patients not coming to regular controls. In order to decrease the perinatal mortality rates in our hospital and country: l. education of public, 2. sufficient and regular prenatal control, 3. enough personal, material and establishment are needed. |
3. | THE PREDICTIVE VALUE OF MATERNAL SERUM ALPHA FETO PROTEIN (MSAFP) LEVELS IN ABORTUS IMMINENS CASES Gökhan Kılıç, Serap Yaltı, Özay Oral, Mustafa Kekova Pages 695 - 698 This study has been planned to determine the statistical significance of MSAFP for the prognosis of pregnancy in abortus imminens cases. 40 pregnant patients who applied to Zeynep Kamil Women and Children's Hospital Gynecology Clinic between November /11 /1996 and April /8 /I997 with vaginal bleeding; whom were diagnosed to have abortus imminens with ultrasonography and clinical symptoms were included in the study. The AFP levels were quantatively measured with the ELISA technique. The MSAFP levels in patients with ongoing pregnancy and those who ended up with abortion were 18.1±17.7 IU/ml and 32.2±28.1 IU/ml, respectively; p value was calculated to be 0.064. The results we obtained in our study shows that MSAFP levels is not a significant indicator of the prognosis of pregnancy. |
