The Effect Of Planned Extracapsular Cataract Extraction Followed By Intraocular Lens Implantation (Pecce-Iol) Procedure On The Corneal Thickness

To investigate the effect of planned extracapsular cataract extraction followed by intraocular lens implantation (PECCE-IOL) procedure on the corneal thickness was aimed in this study. Ultrasonic pachymetric measurements of the corneal thickness of 52 patients (25 males and 27 females; aged between 69 and 72 years, with a mean age 70.5) with senile cataract was performed pre-operatively as well as on 24th-36th hours, 10th day, 1st month and 3rd month postoperatively. The mean corneal thickness was 540±25.4 microns pre-operatively; 655±35.4 microns between 24th and 36th hours post-operatively; 610±20.4 microns on 10th day; 557±15.4 microns at the end of the 1st month and 545±25.4 at the end of the 3rd month postoperatively. Students’ t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the values obtained between 24th-36th hours and on the 10th day (p<0.05). In conclusion, PECCE-IOL procedure causes significant reduction in corneal thickness.

Planlı Ekstrakapsüler Katarakt Cerrahisi Ve İntraoküler Lens Yerleştirilmesinin (Pekke-İol) Kornea Kalınlığına Etkisi

Bu çalışmada planlı ekstrakapsüler katarakt cerrahisi ve intraoküler lens yerleştirilmesinin (PEKKE-İOL) kornea kalınlığına olan etkisinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Yaşları 69-72 (ortalama 70.5) olan 25’i erkek, 27’si kadın, toplam 52 senil katarakt hastasının kornea kalınlıkları preoperatif ve postoperatif olarak 24-36 saat, 10. gün, 1 ay ve 3 aylık olarak ultrasonik pakimetrik olarak ölçüldü. Preoperatif kornea kalınlıkları 540±25.4 mikron, postoperatif 24-36 saatte 655±35.4 mikron, 10. gün 610±20.4 mikron, 1. ay 557±15.4 mikron ve 3. ay 545±25.4 mikron bulundu. Student’s t-test ile yapılan analizde kornea kalınlıkları arasında preoperatif ve postoperatif olarak 24-36 saat ve 10.gün değerleri arasında istatistiksel anlamlılık görüldü (p<0.05). PEKKE-İOL cerrahisinin kornea kalınlığında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir azalmaya sebep olduğu sonucuna varıldı.
