Aesthetic Surgery Practice During COVID-19 Pandemic: Precautions and Recommendations

Various surgical specialties have adviced postponing or cancelling elective surgeries after pandemic was announced by World Health Organisation in 11th of March 2020. The speacilty of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery constitutes both reconstruction and aesthetic procedures, which are usually related to each other. The postponing of elective surgeries during pandemic for three months has increased the number of both the new and the delayed cases. Compatible with the other countries, the decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 disease according to the Ministry of Health data in Turkey, has enabled to return back to normal life and has raised expectations for performing elective surgeries that are especially related to patients psychosocial mood. It is for sure aesthetic surgeries are elective surgeries. Therefore it is essential to proceed with the recommendations of health authorities to avoid irreversible complications. As the aesthetic procedures provide inevitable positive effects on the patient’s self-esteem and his/her social environment, this study aims to investigate the recommendations before and after the aesthetic procedures, and how to start performing them.

COVID-19 Pandemisinde Estetik Cerrahi Pratiği: Önlemler ve Öneriler

Tüm dünyada Dünya Sağlık Örgütü tarafından 11 Mart 2020 tarihinde küresel salgın (pandemi) ilan edilmesi sonrası, farklı cerrahi branşlar elektif olarak tarif edilen acil olmayan ameliyatların yapılmasını geciktirmeyi mümkünse de yapılmamasını önermiştir. Plastik Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi Uzmanlık dalı hem rekonstrüksiyon hem de estetik ameliyatların yapıldığı ve bu iki kavramın birbiri içine girdiği ameliyatları gerçekleştirmektedir. Acil olmayan ve ertelenebilen ameliyatların pandeminin ilan edilmesi sonrası takip eden üç ay boyunca ertelenmesi hem ertelenen olgu sayısında artışa hem de yeni olguların eklenmesine neden olmuştur. Birçok ülkede olduğu gibi ülkemizde de COVID-19 hastalığının insidansındaki bakanlık verilerine göre yakalanan azalma hem normal hayata geri dönüş adımlarını arttırmış hem de toplumda acil olmayan ve ertelenebilecek fakat kişilerin psikososyal duygu durumunu olumlu etkileyecek ameliyatların yapılması konusunda beklentilere neden olmuştur. Estetik ameliyatların acil ve ertelenebilir olduğu muhakkaktır. Hem bakanlığın hem de uzmanlık örgütlerinin önerilerini uygulamak özellikle bu ameliyatlarda geri dönüşümsüz sonuçları engellemek adına çok mühimdir. Estetik ameliyatların kişinin hem kendi sosyal çevresi hem de iç algısında olumlu etkileri yadsınamayacağından bu çalışmada estetik cerrahi öncesi ve sonrasında alınacak önlemler ve bu ameliyatlara nasıl başlanması gerektiği tartışılmıştır.
