A Rare Cause of Mortality Following Whipple Procedure-Inappropritate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion: A Case Report

Although tumors of the periampullary region are not the most prevalent type of tumor, their high mortality and morbidity rates make the treatment of them critical, especially in general surgery. The Whipple procedure is the standard surgical treatment for these tumors. Postoperative care is paramount because of the frequent peri- and postoperative complications resulting from the procedure. Rarely, patients die due to causes other than these complications. In this case, we report a patient who died on postoperative Day 43 as the result of a cerebrovascular infarct, secondary to inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion.

Whipple Prosedürü Sonrası Nadir Görülen Bir Mortalite Nedeni, Uygunsuz Antidiüretik Hormon Sendromu: Olgu Sunumu

Periampüller bölge kanserleri nadir görülür, mortalite ve morbidite oranlarının çok yüksek olması nedeniyle genel cerrahide oldukça önemli bir yere sahiptirler. Uygun olan hastaların tedavisinde standart cerrahi yaklaşım Whipple prosedürüdür. Bu prosedürün de ameliyat öncesi ve sonrası mortalite oranlarının yüksek olması, hasta takibini önemli kılmaktadır. Prosedürün varolan yüksek komplikasyon oranları yanında nadir de olsa hastalar beklenmedik ve operasyon harici nedenlerle kaybedilebilir. Burada uygunsuz antidiüretik hormon sendromu ve buna bağlı olabilecek serebrovasküler olay nedeniyle ameliyat sonrası 43. günde kaybedilen bir olgu sunuldu.
